Today (June 21) is National Dachshund Day. I grew up with dachshunds in the 1960s, 1970s, and into the 1980s, namely Penelope, Ludwig, Dudley, and Ziggy. All have since passed.
Here is a photo of Dudley (as a puppy) from the 1980s. My dad thought he looked like the actor Dudley Moore, hence his name.
Ziggy (1980s) was named after the cartoon character due to similar physical attributes. (photo in comment section)
Ludwig (1970s) was named after Ludwig van Beethoven.
Penelope (1960s; I don't remember name origin; probably already named)
